About Eric
Licensed to practice law since 1998, Attorney Mika is a magna cum laude graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan. Attorney Mika is widely recognized for his deep expertise in elder law, asset protection planning, and estate and long-term care planning. Since 2005, he is Board-Certified as an Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation – the only national organization accredited by the American Bar Association to certify elder law attorneys. This prestigious certification, earned by fewer than 550 attorneys nationwide, makes him the only certified elder law attorney in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and reflects his commitment to the highest standards of professional excellence and client service. Attorney Mika currently serves as chair of WFJ’s Elder Law & Estate Planning Group.
Elder Law & Asset Protection Planning Services in Pennsylvania
Attorney Mika focuses his practice on helping seniors, families, and individuals of all ages protect their assets to maximize legacies on death by minimizing taxes, protecting assets from long-term care liabilities and probate costs. His practice includes:
- Asset Protection & Estate Planning – Drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney tailored to maximize inheritances and wealth transfers by minimizing taxes and avoiding long-term care and probate costs.
- Medicaid & Long-Term Care Planning – Assessing and enabling financial and medical eligibility for Medicaid/Medical Assistance-LTC benefits, Medicare, Social Security Disability, SSI, and protecting assets from nursing home and long-term care costs.
- Special Needs Planning – Drafting special needs trusts to safeguard disabled children and adults while protecting eligibility for government benefits.
- Probate & Estate Administration – Guiding executors and administrators in administering and collecting assets, paying liabilities, debts and taxes, and distributing inheritances.
Tax Planning – Designing strategies to minimize income and capital gains taxes, PA inheritance taxes and federal estate & gift taxes.
Military Service and Recognition
Before entering private practice, Attorney Mika served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (1989-1994), where he was named both the U.S. Air Force Outstanding Intelligence Officer of the Year and the Air Force Special Operations Command Outstanding Intelligence Officer of the Year (1993). He is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War having served in Iraq and Turkey.
